The Hong Kong Rugby Football Union publicizes another sell-out for the world famous Hong Kong Rugby Sevens tournament. Only 4,000 tickets reserved for public sale were spread today via the HKRFU’s first ever public ticket ballot. At the close of the registration period for the ballot, on Monday 4th February, a total of 25,154 ballots were received applying for 49,602 tickets. Of the applications received, 95% requested to purchase the maximum individual allocation of two event tickets, should their ballots be drawn. The demand for an additional 49,602 Sevens tickets over and above the 36,000 tickets distributed to date, clearly surpasses the 40,000-seat capacity of the Hong Kong Stadium. The HKRFU welcomes the continued strong public demand for the Hong Kong Sevens Tickets. The public ballot has helped us to more accurately quantify the demand for Sevens tickets for the first time. This information is an important verification in our drive to work with all relevant parties for the development of a larger stadium in Hong Kong.

The public demand for Hong Kong Rugby Sevens Tickets far exceeds the capacity of the Hong Kong Stadium but the HKRFU is hopeful that the switch to a public ballot has at least offered all applicants an equal opportunity to purchase tickets, whilst at the same time offering a more convenient method for interested spectators to apply for these tickets. The ballot draw was held on Thursday 7th February from 1.00 to 4.00pm. The draw, which was attended by a representative of Price Waterhouse Coopers, was conducted via an electronic random number generating system developed by the Hong Kong Jockey Club and verified by BMM Compliance, a long-established and experienced private independent gaming certification lab. 

Successful applicants will now have two weeks to pay for their tickets Thursday, 7th February - Thursday, 21st February 2013. The New Zealand National Rugby Sevens Team is the New Zealand representative team in rugby union sevens and competes in the IRB Sevens World Series, Rugby World Cup Sevens and the Commonwealth Games. On June 1, 2012 the team's name along with the New Zealand Maori team was officially changed to the All Blacks Sevens. They won ten of the thirteen IRB Sevens World Series Champions. Since 2000 when the series first started, the only times they have not won were in 2006 when Fiji were crowned champions, 2009 won by South Africa and 2010 when they Runners-up to Samoa.

In the 2006-07 series, it was missing until the last round at Murrayfield, Edinburgh, to realize who would win. If Fiji had won their quarter-final against Wales then they would have won the series but they lost 21-14. This meant that New Zealand required winning the final against Samoa to win the title. With a believable six tries to one, 34-5 shoreline, they did just that and were put the finishing touch to champions. The 2007-08 series saw New Zealand set quite a few records. They became the first team in the nine-year history of the IRB Sevens to have won the first four events of a season, having won the Dubai, South Africa, Wellington and USA competitions. In USA Sevens, they broke their own record, set in 2001 and 2002, for most successive match wins in the IRB Sevens. 2013 Hong Kong Sevens Rugby Tournament Format

For 2013 Hong Kong Sevens Rugby Tournament teams are divided into pools of four teams, who play a round-robin within the Group. Points will be awarded in each pool on the regular timetable for Rugby Sevens Tournaments 3 for a win, 2 for a draw, 1 for a loss. It is unlike the standard Rugby Tournament in the 15-man game. 

Building on the changes made for the 2012 Hong Kong Sevens, in which two separate 12-team competitions were competition, the IRB prolonged the event to a total of 28 teams, again divided into two competitions. The most important draw will contains16 teams the same numbers that are concerned in all regular series events. The contestants will be the 15 core teams definite of places in each series event, plus Hong Kong, which capable as winner of the 2012 HSBC Asian Sevens Series. These teams will try to win in Pools A, B, C, and D. The winners and runners-up from each pool in qualify for main tournament the Cup Quarter Finals. The losers of these Quarterfinals will participate in the Plate Semifinals. The remaining 8 teams compete in the Bowl Quarterfinals, with the losers of these matches challenging in the Plate Semifinals.

The second competition will be the recently instituted World Series Pre-Qualifier. It will feature 12 teams, specially two qualifiers from each of IRB's six regional sevens contest. 

These teams will play in Pools E, F, and G. The top two teams from each pool, plus the top two third-place teams, will go forward to knockout play.
